Your Surroundings, LLC was established to service the decorating needs of clients both in the South and Midwest.   Carol Colley and her niece, Kimberly Forbes, combined two well established decorating firms, one in Michigan and the other in Texas, into one full service design firm with two locations. They provide their clients, whether it is a residential, new build, remodel or a commercial project, with clear and concise answers to decorating needs, while taking into consideration the client’s budget and time frame.  

Working with Real Estate Professionals in both Michigan and Texas, Carol and Kimberly have assisted them in obtaining their desired result…a SOLD sign on their client’s property. An additional marketing tool that these Realtors used is “staging.” Staging provides a Realtor an edge on their competition. Carol and Kimberly will create the look and feel of a model home no matter what the age of the property or what state it may be in. Marketing the listing as professionally decorated is one more plus for the Real Estate Professional and their client.

Carol and Kimberly have been involved in interior design for over thirty years. Carol’s decorating career began when she was still working as a Medical Secretary over twenty years ago. It is then that her boss, after seeing Carol’s decorating and design skills used in her own home, hired her to “work her magic” on a beautiful 5,000 square foot home located in northwest Houston, Texas.

That was the beginning of a career that has taken her from Michigan to Houston, to England and back to Texas. Carol’s years of traveling and living abroad has broaden her knowledge, style and technique allowing her to apply her knowledge and expertise in interior decorating to condominiums as small as 900 sq. feet to homes over 6000 sq. ft., London Lofts, 16th century thatched English cottages, and very large English country homes.

The passion for Europe extends to Kimberly Forbes who studied architecture abroad in France.  Her love of design and distinct talents, have awarded her numerous showcase houses and academic honors.  During her fifteen years of experience she has collaborated with builders on the design of her clients homes, has managed both residential and commercial remodel projects, always striving to deliver quality and uniqueness within the clients budget. She has worked with Real Estate Agents to "stage" their listings and designed model homes for various builders.  Kimberly's design process is built on communication between her and her client.  This allows her to understand her client’s need’s, wants and desires. Her ability to express her thoughts not only in words but through 2D drawings, elevations, space planning/ furniture layouts and color boards have assisted many clients in seeing "their" vision.  Interior Design is not just a job for Kimberly Forbes it is her life passion.
